This is the Welcome message to the List

Welcome to the physics-chemistry mailing list

A mailing list to disseminate material of interest to physicists and chemists. While this principally involves the area of science variously referred to as physical chemistry or chemical physics, it may also involve issues of a broader range of interests. You should keep this message for future reference.

To submit something to the physics-chemistry mailing list, send e-mail to

physics-chemistry@cc.newcastle.edu.au

Your message will be sent to all the people who have subscribed to the physics-chemistry mailing list.

In general, to submit something to a physics mailing list (say, physics-example), send e-mail to

physics-example@cc.newcastle.edu.au

Your message will be sent to all the people who have subscribed to the list.

You will be able to identify messages from the list because the To: address will be

To: physics-example@cc.newcastle.edu.au

If you want to reply to a message from the list, there are two options. If you want to reply only to the person who sent the message, just use the REPLY command in your mailer, or select REPLY from the MESSAGE menu in Eudora. If you want your message to go to everyone on the list, use the FORWARD command of your mailer or use FORWARD from the MESSAGES menu of Eudora. Note that you will have to type in the address physics-example@cc.newcastle.edu.au. If you use Eudora, you can define a nickname for the list and use the FORWARD TO option to save typing.

If you are no longer interested in this group, you can cancel your subscription by sending a message to

mailserv@cc.newcastle.edu.au

The Subject: line is ignored and the message should say unsubscribe physics-example

If other people are interested in joining, they should send a message to

mailserv@cc.newcastle.edu.au

The Subject: is again ignored and the message should say

subscribe physics-example

If you are unsure what you can do, send a message containing the word "help" to

mailserv@cc.newcastle.edu.au

In all cases, try to omit your signature from the message. Otherwise, the mailserver will try to interpret it as subscribe or unsubscribe messages :-) You can ensure that Mailserv will ignore anything following your real commands by typing the word END on the line following the command line(s).

To report any problems or request information about mailing lists, contact postmaster@cc.newcastle.edu.au or telephone Networks and Communications on (049) 215344.
